About

Meet Alistair Huong, ChFC®

Growing up in an immigrant family in Southern California, I remember my parents modeling to me important lessons of sacrifice and faithfulness to the Lord—lessons that stay with me to this day. My college degree was in secondary education, and I taught high school math for a few years before getting a graduate degree in business from Southern Adventist University. It was around this time that two significant events took place in my life, both of which converged to lead me to financial planning today.

First, I married my beautiful wife, Deborah, with whom I have two vivacious daughters. She and I have been avid savers since early in our marriage, and we documented our financial journey and frugal lifestyle on our blog, Saving the Crumbs. Evidently people were reading it because I started getting speaking invitations to churches and conferences around the country and even internationally.

The second thing that occurred right after I finished my business degree was that I became the Executive Director of a faith-based nonprofit organization called AudioVerse whose mission was to distribute Bible-based, Christ-centered media freely around the world online. My finance seminars were distributed through the AudioVerse platform which introduced me to an even wider audience.

Over time as people heard my presentations and read my blog, an increasing number of individuals started contacting me for financial counseling and advice. I would do what I could on a voluntary basis, but before long it became clear that many of these people needed more comprehensive financial services than I could give as a volunteer blogger.

That’s when I decided to pursue formal training through The American College of Financial Services to obtain my Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation. The coursework afforded me professional education in the core areas of comprehensive financial planning and opened the door for me to start AdventEdge Financial, LLC.

Although my path to becoming a financial planner was a circuitous one, I believe God took me on that journey because it uniquely prepared me to provide clients professional, personal, and principled advice. I’m here to walk alongside my clients on their financial journey, helping them to simplify the complex, to understand their dreams and goals, and to be a teacher to help them have confidence in making the best decisions. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than seeing hope light up my clients’ eyes and for them to make choices that have positive, life-long impact.

Today, many of my clients are Seventh-day Adventist Christians who are looking for an advisor who shares their worldview and convictions around money and faith. To listen to some of my seminars to see if I’m someone you’d like to work with, please visit the Resources page to see the latest entries that are shared there. And if you think I can be of service to you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I would be glad to meet you.
